ShortJo is free to use. There is no warranty — the software comes as-is. You own your journal entries entirely; we don't claim any rights over them and we don't have a copy.
By using ShortJo (the web application at app.shortjo.com and the marketing pages at shortjo.com), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
ShortJo is a bullet-journal web application that runs in your browser. It stores your entries in your browser's local storage and can, at your option, sync them to your own Google Drive or Dropbox account. ShortJo does not operate user accounts and does not store your journal data on its own servers.
ShortJo is free to use. There is no fee, no paid tier, no subscription, and no premium upgrade. We reserve the right to change this in the future, but any change would apply only to new features — what works today will keep working under the same terms.
You retain all rights to the content you write in ShortJo. We claim no ownership, no licence, and no derivative right over your entries. We never see them and we do not store them.
You are responsible for your own backups. ShortJo stores entries in your browser; clearing browser data, switching browsers, or losing the device will lose any data that wasn't synced. The export feature in Settings is there to make backups easy.
Because ShortJo doesn't host your data or have accounts to suspend, there is little we can prohibit on the server side. You agree, on your own honour, not to use ShortJo to:
ShortJo is provided "as is" and "as available," without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including (but not limited to) warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defects will be corrected.
ShortJo is a notebook, not a system of record. Don't use it as the sole source of truth for anything where losing the data would matter materially.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ShortJo and its maintainers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, profit, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service. Because the service is free and we do not handle your data, our aggregate liability for any direct damages will not exceed ten pounds sterling (£10) — a notional sum reflecting that no money has changed hands.
If you connect Google Drive or Dropbox, your use of those services is governed by their respective terms. ShortJo is not responsible for the availability, performance, or policies of those third-party services.
The ShortJo name, the bracket-S mark, and the visual design of the application and these marketing pages are owned by the ShortJo maintainers. The bullet-journal method itself is the work of Ryder Carroll; ShortJo is an independent implementation inspired by it and is not affiliated with or endorsed by him.
We may revise these terms from time to time. The current version always lives at this URL, with the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be flagged in the app's release notes.
You can stop using ShortJo at any time by closing the tab. We can stop offering it at any time too — if that ever happens, the export feature in Settings will keep working so you can take your plain-text files with you.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Questions about these terms can be sent to hello@shortjo.com.
